What's New?
AL Lang, Norman Phillips and George Lesko received this message
from the French village of Schoeneck
| Sixty one years
ago, the B-24 named "Ginger" crashed in the French
village of Schoeneck after the 10 crew members bailed out.
The village erected a Monument near the site where "Ginger"
crashed but did not burn. Most of the crew were executed by
the SS after surrender, one crewmember is still listed as
"Missing in Action" and there are 3 survivors -
George Lesko, Norman Phillips and Al Lang who attended the
original Monument Dedication in 1998. The executioners, who
killed most of the crew with a bullet to the back of their
head were brought before the War Crimes Tribune in 1947 and
were found guilty and executed the next morning by hanging.
Lesko has attended most every yearly event (5) and Phillips
has attend two and Lang and his wife Mardine could not attend
due the health reasons. The survivors and the families of
the deceased crewmembers wholeheartedly appreciate the annual
remembrance and effort by the Schoeneck townspeople to honor
the crew of "Ginger". Phillips chose and arranged
delivery of the lovely Monument wreath and thanks also to
Dominique for keeping the monument so presentable and not
lacking for flowers and/or plants. - Thank you all again -
the surviving crew of B-24 Ginger - Al Lang, Norman Phillips
and George Lesko. |
