Letters from friends & family

From Mary Smith 3/7/01

Hi George,

Great, I look forward to seeing you again in Barth. I really think we will have a nice size crowd this year, as a lot of people are learning about it earlier and seem to be interested in coming. We will see. Glad you got the translation, I thought it appeared to be the same. I still have not gotten the translation from Nadia, and now she has gone to Russia, as her mother fell and broke her hip. She took her son with her and he may fly back earlier and stay with us until she is able to return to the states. She is trying to get her mother out of Russia so it may take a long time, etc.

Sounds like you will have a very hectic schedule in September, but I know you can handle it!! And I am sure it will be great to see your old buddies in Las Vegas. We were planning on taking the kids and going for their Spring Break, but that has been canceled because of Megan's illness.

Megan was hospitalized again last Friday and we were released on Monday. They found a cyst in the middle of her brain, on the left side. It is about the size of a quarter . They have decided not to operate but rather watch her very closely and see if it grows. If it doesn't grow they may not operate. I think the neurosurgeon is "surgically scared" of Megan, as her case is rather complex. They did a CT scan on Saturday, Sunday and a MRI on Monday and said it had not grown. She seems to feel okay, no more headaches since last Friday (which is what sent us back to the hospital and they found the cyst). So she is now at home resting. I feel like I have been on a roller coaster this last few weeks. This is longest period she has been sick.

As for your website, it is GREAT. I don't think you are using too much family stuff, I love the family photos. Have you asked Norm and AI to contribute their family photos or information about what they did after the war, etc. ? You might just mention it again in your next correspondence to them. Also are you in contact with the deceased crews family members? It would be nice to have something from them also. I thought the info from the war crimes trial was fascinating and was hoping that Jim would add some of it, maybe he will when he has more time. But I think overall it is really a nice site. A lot of people are just hesitant to sign guestbooks. I have around 400 visitors a day to my site and only a handful will sign the book. I am going to add a link to your site from my site and also from the American Ex-POW site as soon as I get caught up and can do an update!

Also I am sure Jim has or will be registering the site with all the major search engines. Usually it takes several months for them to add your site to their database, so traffic and guestbook signings will pick up once they are showing up on the search engines. Please tell Marge thanks for her prayers for Megan and thank you, too.
Take care,
Mary
